LG’s latest range of monitors, including this LG 25UM57 model, feature an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio, which gives extra width and coupled with the beautiful 25-inch screen makes for a great viewing experience. I put this monitor through its paces to determine if it lived up to my expectations. This LG 25UM57 review was performed by one of our independent associates, so it may not reflect our professional opinion. First ImpressionsMy first thought out of the box was that this was an incredibly wide monitor. Of course, the 21:9 aspect ratio is one of the key features in this 25-inch monitor but seeing it, in reality, is still a “wow” moment and it really made me eager to try this one out.The design of this LG monitor is attractive, though nothing extraordinary. The all-black, shiny look gives it a sleek appearance and the wide 25-inch screen makes it stand out on any desk or table. The stand is small and pretty standard but is fairly sturdy, though I did find there was a slight wobble when I typed for a long time.

I found the monitor pretty easy to assemble, which is a definite plus. You simply clip the screen into the stand and you’re good to go. Even those without much tech experience should have no trouble setting this up.The LG Electronics 25UM57 IPS display makes use of LG’s iconic on-device numbers to navigate the menus, as opposed to buttons. Having used LG before, I was familiar with this feature but even those new to LG should have no problems and will enjoy the easy navigation it provides.
Once I was all set up, it was time to test the display quality. The (IPS) technology provides fantastic uniform quality from whatever angle you look from and the color reproduction is great with sRGB of over 99%. This makes it an monitor for and it, of course, makes gaming a real experience. The black stabilizer provides excellent visibility and brightness when you’re playing in dark scenes and I particularly loved this feature for letting me spot the baddies who were trying to hide in the shadows.

Games really do look amazing when played on this ultra-wide monitor, especially if you choose a game that takes advantage of the 2560 x 1080 resolution.Even though it is generally targeted as a, I also found the display quality fantastic for general web browsing and work. The ultra wide screen makes web browsing so much more enjoyable as you can have open multiple tabs and even two full browser pages at the same time without any cutoff.
Text is crisp and clear; colors are fantastic and the matte screen eliminates any glare without leaving white backgrounds blurry. One thing that should be noted, however, is that watching TV or online videos on this monitor can be a little annoying. That is simply down to the widescreen format, which many videos don’t make use of so you end up with black borders on the side of your video. FeaturesThe LG 25UM57 monitor has some real stand-out features that really elevate it to great monitor status. The best of these features is the four-way split feature. You have the ability to split the screen four ways (or two or three), which really maximizes multitasking. You can have multiple windows open at the one time without having to split back and forth, which really speeds up your work time.
In particular, I loved this feature for photo editing and for writing research papers. It’s remarkable how much time you save simply by eliminating clicking between windows. The one downside to this great feature is that it is not compatible with Windows 10 so you’ll only benefit from this feature if you’re using Windows Vista, 7 or 8 or Mac OS.Another great feature of the LG 25UM57 is the Flicker-Safe technology, designed to protect your eyes from fatigue. We spend so much time staring at computer monitors, which can really leave our eyes tired so this is a neat feature to help with that.
When you turn it on, it minimizes flicker level and dims the screen to give your eyes a rest. The LG 25UM57 screen also has the ability to tilt 30 degrees backward, a great feature for users with taller seating setups or just taller people in general. As someone taller, I definitely appreciated being able to tilt this to a more comfortable viewing angle.Another note-worthy feature is the Energy Star qualification. The monitor runs on very little power and goes into standby mode when not in use, which powers the monitor almost completely off. ConnectivityThe LG 25UM57 display features two HDMI ports on the back of the monitor, along with a headphone and audio jack. The 2 ports connected instantly with no lag or loose connections and make it easy to connect your devices. However, due to the lack of DVI port or DisplayPort, this monitor may be unsuitable for users with older graphic cards. This seems to be part of a clever strategy to encourage users to switch to newer graphic cards.

ConclusionThe LG 25UM57 monitor is a great monitor for gaming and work. After using it awhile, I found my work time got a lot quicker thanks to the four-way split screen, as I was switching tabs less.
The display quality looks amazing for gaming, but the ultra wide display means it’s not ideal for entertainment. The lack of compatibility was also not ideal. However, this is a great monitor that provides great specs at a great price. Overall, I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a good gaming monitor.
SummaryThe LG 25UM57 has some great features, which make it perfect for the avid gamer or those who love working with a wider screen. The 4-way split screen function is a great time-saving feature and the IPS panel means you’ll have excellent quality from every angle.

If anyone is curious about the extremely cheap monitor, the LG 25UM57, I can verify for you, it is very good for the price. Has perfect colors due to the IPS Display and a way extremely bright screen, a good 2560x1080 resolution, and no stretching. It is a 60hz monitor but i managed to get mine to 80hz without a hitch. They have plenty of settings and color adjustments, as well as several presets for different style games and such.

So for $180 you get a 2560x1080 75hz IPS display. Now time for the cons:The monitor stand is very cheap and wobbles ever so slightly (However VESA mounting is an option). It has an adjustable vertical tilt and that's it. I did notice a slight amount of IPS Glow in the corners of the display but nothing crazy.OVERALL:An extremely low cost monitor to get you started in the UltrawideMasterRace. Definitely Recommend.EDIT:Also has very small Bezels around the screen so you can easily get immersed into your game.
I just bought the 25UM56 2 days ago for 149.99 at fry's and as far as I know there's not much of a difference between 25UM56 and 25UM57, but I'm already having problems with it and I'm most likely going to return it.I'm having some uneven backlight bleed, it's orange on one side and blue/white on the other and it's really throwing me off. It also has some weird shadow or something on the edges of the screen and to top it all off the stand is a little wobbly when I'm typing and I've already checked to make sure the screws are all tightened. Here's some pics.
